Were you brought up on benefits?

Were you brought up in a household that is dependant on benefits, either because your parents were workless, or worked very few hours, or had disabilities and were unable to work?

How did it make you feel?

Did you notice any difference compared to families in employment when you were at school?

Or did you notice it more later when you were at college or university?

Did you even know your parents received benefits or did they exclude you from knowing about their dependence on them?

Did they encourage you into further or higher education so that you could have a better life (at least financially) than them?

Was receiving benefits a temporary situation for the household due to an unexpected change (such as redundancy or family breakup) or a lifetime thing?

How did it shape you? What was the impact? The downside? The upside?
