University of Law

Is the University of Law any good? I'm studying at York St John's doing a law degree and really don't like the uni lifestyle, so i was going to move home and just get my degree alongside working, so i'm not bothered about the social aspect of uni.

Is ULaw a decent place to get my degree?

I tried to mentor professionally someone who had recently obtained a First from the University of Law. Her ignorance of basic legal principles was remarkable. She appeared to have bought a duff product from a commercial organisation.

If you do not wish for a social experience, perhaps look at the Open University, or Birkbeck.

Hi Lucy,

Have you spoken to your lecturers about thinking of transferring/ leaving the course? They normally have some really good advice, as they will probably have had students in similar situations in the past that have not liked the university lifestyle and have thought about dropping out or transferring

What year are you in? Since not all university will accept transfer students from other university's, and you normally can only get 4 years of student finance for undergraduate degrees.
The UCAS website has some really good advice and information regarding transferring universities Changing or leaving your course | Undergraduate | UCAS

I would definitely speak to your academic tutor about this, as they will be able to offer some advice and support around this, and may have some further insight of what other university's will accept transferring students doing law degrees.

Hi @Lucyelizabeth_

I have really enjoyed studying at Ulaw and think most of my peers have had a similar experience. There is an excellent support network at the university and really good career advice to help prepare for your vocation alongside obtaining your degree. Of course, you should consider all of the options available to you to work out which institution best suits you, however, I would recommend looking at Ulaw as one of your choices. I think the best way to get a feel for a place and how they teach, is to join some of their events or open days. I understand you are likely wishing to study online, however, there are still lots of online "open day" events that would be great for you to attend!

I hope this helps 🙂

Please do not pick ULaw, the education and teaching is absolutely terrible, the way exams are scattered is so confusing and even to the point where they can't even give out exam results properly. I would say the education is even WORSE than the bad social life there😂(though I know you aren't bothered about the social life).

I'm currently transferring away from ULaw because I just couldn't stand it, from the very first day up until now. The lecturers don't even know what they're talking about most of the time so I don't know what knowledge you will actually gain because I can tell you that I learnt more in Secondary school than ULaw💀

I agree with the person below, even a First class degree from there would be absolutely useless. The timetable system also would most likely not be compatible if you were to work alongside. Every lecture or workshop is two hours long and I could say they just include useless content which is easy enough to do in your own time.

So for your own sake please do not pick ULaw. But good luck if you are transferring somewhere😀
