Arabic A-level

Hi, I need urgent help with my questions. I did my igcse Arabic exam last year and I got an A*, I live in the uk but I didn't do the GCSE version of the exam because I thought it would be too easy and it won't be accepted as a gcse in my home country (Egypt). I'm in year 12 doing A-level Bio, Chem and Maths and just recently got my mock grades back (BBD) with D in maths. I'm predicted BBB, and since I did really bad in Maths i am thinking of doing A-level Arabic, since its my first language and i'm pretty confident in it. I have three problems tho : 1) I'm deciding this pretty late now, 2) I have no idea how to start revising for it especially that there is a film and a book and a research (thats what my friend whos doing his exam very soon told me). 3) its not taught at my sixthform which means i'm independent on how i study for the exam. Please if anyone has done A-level Arabic edexcel can you provide with full detail on how did you revise, what resources did you have and what grades did you get, as well as any other advice that could be helpful? Thanks.

Hello I am also Egyptian and I also do those three A levels and I also struggle in math so I think I can answer your question. First of all your IGCSE Arabic qualification is enough for Egyptian Universities if you sat the CIE one. Also no it's definitely not too late to take Arabic A-level if you are confident in it, I'm sitting the Edexcel A level Arabic soon and trust me 1 day is all you need if you're fluent. Honestly start by looking at the spec then ask your teachers for help or a tutor and if you need help or resources reach out to me

I did Arabic GCSE last year and I did the full course in about 8months (in year9). I am not Arab so for me it is a completely foreign language, and it isn’t a subject my school offers so I had to learn independently to take the exams. I got a 9 in it, although it was intensive work and did take lots of effort to learn a new language in less than a year, however I think if you are fluent in Arabic, you should be okay- just keep in mind you must use fus’ha (standard arabic, as a friend of mine also did the GCSE who is Arab and told me using dialect is marked down)

using dialect isnt always marked down but could be sometimes.

Ah - didn’t know that
One of my Arabic teachers is an Edexcel examiner who told me it usually does lose marks

Hello there are 3 papers in the Edexcel A level. The first paper consists of translating text, comprehension, and a research essay (though you have to research and memorize the information beforehand). Second paper consists of translating text, and analysing literary work (novel/movie). Third paper is a listening paper and you also have to summarize a text. But if you're planning on doing it you'll be just fine if you're fluent in conversational Arabic.

Hi,
I’ve started the A-level Arabic course this year (as I’ve done the GCSE last year and am now in yr10)
Do you know of any A-Level Arabic specific textbooks or courses for Arabic? (As it isn’t a subject at my school and I am non-Arab, I have a private tutor but it is mostly self-study)
Also, how does the analysing the text/movie task work? I am starting the book "عصفور من الشرق" and the film “إشاعة حب" but finding both quite difficult, especially as the film is in Egyptian not fusha (also if u know if there is anywhere the film can be watched with English subtitles 😅)
can i pm you?
i might tomorrow though if thats ok

Hello I understand it must be quite hard you can look at past papers here: Arabic (2018) | Pearson qualifications see how questions are laid out etc. and do some practice too. They have mark schemes and examiner notes which both are really quite helpful. For the movie I'm doing another one وجدة so I'm not really sure but I'll look for you. For the book I have a summary analysis:

Hi! I'm doing the A levels for the book "عصفور من الشرق" and the film “إشاعة حب".
For the movie, what helped me most was to have someone who understands the Egyptian dialect to explain it to you. For the book, I would recommend writing summaries every ten pages first in English, then translated into Arabic. I then ask my Arabic teacher to make them. This will not only help you remember key events, but also improve your written Arabic. Hope that helped! @happymermaid
