parents controlling student finance

I applied for student finance and my parents put down one of their own accounts for the money to go into they will send me what i can spend monthly.

I told them how I want to control my own money and how i plan to open up another account for it but they said no. I've brought this up multiple times but no progress is being made.

I just want independence and to be able to manage my own stuff when I get to uni, and I told them this but they said I don't need to - they even want me to still send half of my working money to them if I get a job while at uni, but if I do I just won't tell them.

I need advice on how to convince my parents to let me have access to my own student finance and to control it myself.

Thanks

Edit:
I told my parents that the account needs to be in my name and they let me change the account to my own. They said that they will still need access to the account so they can see what I'm doing with the money, but we'll see about this.

Thanks to everyone who replied because you helped me out big time!

I think you need to stand up to them if you ever want any independence - that's a loan in your name, it's not theirs to seize and dictate.
My understanding is that SFE won’t pay the money into an account that isn’t in your name. It may be worth confirming the same with them and then explaining to your parents that this isn’t an option, and more importantly this is an opportunity for you to learn to manage your own finances.

I do stand up to them but I don't want to ruin our relationship, especially while I'm still living with them

Thanks, I didn't know the account had to be in my name so I'll bring this up. I've said it's a chance for me to learn to many my own money though and they just said I don't need to

I understand what you're saying, but nothing will change. How will you ever move out if they have all the control and won't let you learn for yourself?

As @Admit-One says they will likely refuse to pay it to your parents account for kinda obvious reasons.

This is my understanding as well, they seem quite strict about it and so people who have CIFAS markers (there are so many on this website somehow...) seem to have issues with it every year. If the account isn't in your name they won't accept it.

Probably in some part to avoid this exact situation...as well as more general fraud etc.

Yeah, youve got a point. I told my parents and they did let me change the account to one of my own so hopefully they will ease off some more
