Logistical questions

Hiya!
Planning (fingers crossed!) to study at Bath in September to do physics w/ astrophysics and have some logistical questions!
Before I say this, yes I know “don’t worry you’ll find out all this out”, I’m autistic so I just like to know how things work/ what to expect early
(Yes I have booked an appointment with a disability adviser!)

1- How is coursework set? Is it uploaded online- if so what does this look like?
2- Roughly how much time do you get for various bits of coursework/ tasks i.e. essays, lab reports, problem solving problems etc.
3- How regular is the timetable? I.e. Same every week? Absolutely no consistencies between each week? Some things regular other things not?
4- where in bath are the best/ cheapest places to get groceries? Hey, I’d rather not figure this one out the hard way!
5- When do you move in? Term starts 30th September but how long before this would you have to get used to everything?

Thanks in advance

Hi! First of all, it's completely fair to want/need to know exactly how things are going to work, going to uni can be scary 🙂

I can't completely answer your Q's as I study Biology but I can answer from what I know of my course/courses friends do.

1 - As far as I know, all coursework is set and handed in online. For submitting and general course info, we use a site called Moodle and it's usually submitted anonymously using a 'coversheet' (you'll add your candidate number, unit code etc to a template and insert it at the front of your essay/lab report). However, for some coursework like presentations and dissertations, it can't be anonymous - you still submit it to Moodle tho, you just don't need the coversheet.
2 - This really depends on your lecturer, unit and course. I've had some essays that have been set on the first day of term and due on the last, but then I had a presentation this semester that I found out about 2 weeks before it was happening (but for stuff like presentations, lecturers are usually quite lenient with letting you change topics/dates if needed in my experience).
3 - Again, depends on the unit. Generally, there is always some kind of pattern even if it's not the same every week. This semester for me, the vast majority of my lectures for each unit were in the same room at the same time and day etc. You also receive your timetable for the whole semester at the same time, so if you are in a different room at any point, you should have a lot of notice and time to prepare.
4 - There's three main supermarkets in Bath - Sainsburys, Morrisons and Lidl. Obviously, lidl is often the cheapest place to go, but is further from campus than sainsburys (so is morrisons), so depends how far you're willing to go for a bargain.
5 - I moved in for first year in 2020, and my move in date was 17th September and day 1 of term was 1st or 2nd of October I think - so about 2 weeks between move-in and start of lectures.

I hope this helps, lmk if you have any other questions 🙂
