Can I apply for another Masters/ post grad SFE loan after receiving part of one?

Hey there,

I stared a MA Part Time after Covid and had to drop out due to not being able to accommodate it with work - I received 2 half payments from SFE from a Post grad loan. Is it possible for me to apply to another course and apply for the another post grad loan for the rest of the money that I would get from the loan?

Thanks so much,

Hi there, you wouldn't be eligible to apply for another MA course if you've previously studied one unless you withdrew or suspended due to reasons outwith your control. In that case, the assessors would require evidence to assess you for this. Thanks, Jason

Hey Jason,

The reasons I had to drop out of the MA we’re down to strikes and the organisation of the university - the timetable kept changing and the was constant and was impossible to do with work. I took a years gap and paused it but then didn’t not to go back as it hadn’t improved at all.

Is there a contact email I could speak to before applying for more education?

Thanks so much,

Hi there. We don't have an inbound email, sorry, only phone for Postgraduate. We call the process Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR). If you could not complete your course year due to personal reason, you may be able to receive an additional year of funding if you provide evidence of this. This evidence can be uploaded on your online account. The evidence depends on your personal circumstances.

For example, we can accept photocopies of the following;

-Letter from a GP on headed paper
-Letter from University on headed paper
-Letter from Social Services on headed paper
-Letter from clergy or professional person on headed paper
-Death Certificate and/or a Birth Certificate

The evidence must be;
- Signed and dated
-Confirms the reason why you could not continue with your studies and
- When this took place

You will also need to upload this with a letter from yourself explaining what has happened, in your own words and that you are looking to apply for CPR for a new masters course. We do need a masters application to be made in order to process the claim. The ones for 24/25 come out in June. Thanks, Leah.
