Which London university is best for Arabic?

Hi, I'm at the end of year 12 and have decided that I want to do arabic at university, I would particularly like to study arabic in combination with another subject. Which London university is best for arabic? I am considering SOAS?
Hi there,

SOAS is a great choice for an Arabic joint honours degree. You’ll be able to start the degree ab initio or if you’ve done some Arabic study previously you will be streamlined into an appropriate level in your first year. SOAS’ combined honours degrees in Arabic are intended to give students a solid grounding in Modern Standard and Classical Arabic, as well as conversational ability in Colloquial Arabic, in combination with a second subject.

As per the SOAS website, your third year will be spent at an Arab university or Language Institute in the Middle East, where students study the colloquial language as well as Modern Standard Arabic, and write an extended essay in Arabic. SOAS students often say that their year abroad was the highlight of their degree, it certainly was for me 🙂

In terms of which London university is “best” for Arabic, I think it’d be worth taking a look at the structure of every course that you have your eye on, look at the modules on offer and think about which ones pique your interest the most. SOAS’ core focus has always been to look at matters with a post-colonial lens, so if this is something that you’d be interested in, then SOAS may be a good fit for you.

All the best in your decision-making process,
If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to reach out!
