Does hormonal contraception just not work for some?

I’ve been on and off multiple types of pills (combo and mini, can’t take oestrogen anymore) since I was 16. I just don’t get on with them at all, one side effect will be fixed with a new pill, but another will come in its place.

I have really painful periods and now progesterone only methods just seem to make the pain unpredictable or worse. My only choices now is to try the long acting methods, and I don’t even know if I want to try, or take strong prescribed pain killers every month, which was the best option, until my period came with IBS symptoms, so that’s more pain!

Just wondering if anyone has felt the same? It seems to work for everyone else. I have only been taking my current pill for a few months now, but I don’t know if I even want to give it a chance to work, I’ve already had so many side effects, it’s like I try everything and nothing works.
