Accommodation till graduation

Hi, I’m set to graduate this summer. I currently live on campus but my contract ends 10 days before graduation. It is very frustrating that this is the case as I’m already struggling to pay my remaining accommodation debt due to my student loan not being enough to even cover my rent alone, and yet they expect students to pay more by kicking us out even before graduation. Please I need some advice on how to go about this. Can’t I just continue living in my current accommodation until graduation??

Hi Anon,
You can apply to live in on campus accommodation over summer from Monday the 8th of July - Sunday the 8th of September for more than 7 days in either pendle shared bathroom or Lonsdale/pendle ensuite. I believe the accommodation portal is open to book these rooms now. It might be worth sending the accommodation team an email about whether you can stay on your exact room.

Yes but would this still cost extra if I asked to stay in my exact room now? I’m already struggling to pay my remaining accommodation debt as my student loan doesn’t even cover my rent alone. And this service that they are offering doesn’t accommodate people that are still in debt with the uni. So what am I supposed to do if i dont have money to pay extra accommodation for my graduation??

Hey Anon,
Im really sorry to hear about your troubles but mu assumption is yes they will charge you extra for any extra days spent in the accommodations.

Perhaps just travelling to Lancaster for the graduation day is a better option?
Alternatively why dont you ask one of your friends to stay with them for a couple days before graduation? Many people i know have done this in the past where their contract ends early so they stay over with their partners/ friends for a few days.

Last year daughter was working in the city during the summer months and had accommodation which she paid by the week at bowland main (none ensuite) or furness ensuite. This was open to all college students. It does have to be paid for though. worth speaking to your accommodation manager, but I do think it will be an extra charge and if thats the case, it might be easier and cheaper to go back home. Or, if you are an international student who cant fly there and back, maybe some friends can help out until that point?
