When should I book for the UCAT?

I'm currently a Year 13 student so sitting my A-Levels in a few weeks (ah don't remind me) and I'm wondering when I should book my test date.

I'm also not convinced I'm going to get the grades needed to get into med school (Predicted AAB/AAA depending who I talked to- but hoping to just study to push my grades up)

With UCAT account creation opening today and then booking opening on the 18th(?) June, during exam season, I'm wondering if I should wait until after results day (15th August) to book? I fully intend to be studying before and then aim to get a test slot towards the end of the season.

Will there still be test slots to be booked, aiming for later in September?

Thanks:smile:

I’d book as soon as booking opens, if you leave it until August there probably won’t be any slots left. Or that was my experience at least last year… At least if you book when booking opens you can always try and reschedule later on. It’s important to get a booking slot as obviously if you don’t get a slot you can’t sit the ucat

I would recommend booking and taking the UCAT earlier in the summer. But give yourself plenty of time to revise hard for it after exams finish.

A week off to relax a bit and then straight into UCAT revision. Plan to it earlier and relax after. Then if you feel you are having a torrid time you can try and rebook later if needed.

The slots after results come out are often very full very quickly because of the people who need to resit. So don't rely on getting a later slot.

Good luck with getting your grades. It's down to the last push now. It will be worth it. When you get them applying strategically is important. Taking the time to work that strategy out and targeting your application can take time. Another good reason to have your UCAT score in hand so you can start thinking about it once the results come out.

Thank u!
Posted this in the UCAT 2024 thread too and got a similar answer.
Thanks for the insight on when slots tend to book up, I figured that the post-results day booking rush could be a thing but nice to know for certain and will definitely try to book as soon as I can!)

Yeah
Booking earlier sounds like a good plan, thank you for the advice!
Hello,

Best of luck on your exams! Stressful but exciting times ahead.

I remember booking my exam but then rescheduling later on because I felt like I needed more time to study, as above I would say ensuring you have a spot is better than risking not having a spot.

Let us know if you need any tips and tricks.

Best Regards,
Haya - MBBS V UCLan
