AQA A-level History USA: Making of a Superpower (7042/1K) 2024 exam thread

Any predictions for this year? What are you focusing on?

Considering last year's part A was on Vietnam, is it necessary to focus on foreign policy in the later timer period?

I don't think African American improvments have been covered 1945-75. Also I want to make sure I can answer the most difficult questions so just doing that really. I think there will be foreign Policy 1920-45. Probably not afterwards

I could be wrong ofc but foreign policy questions are more common in this period It would make sense to revise foreign policy for earlier time periods as these haven't really been used as questions. Thinking about it again, I will still be preparing a 50s communism essay plan as this might possibly come up. It's all speculation at the end of the day really. Do you have any prefictions?

I think the social question will be late time period, 1945-1975. Maybe to what extent was society divided.

That question has already come up in the sample papers - if it was society it may be something like to what extent was protest movements the main cause of social change

They have used sample a question in a paper before, or at least very similar wording.

Another idea I've had for this period is 'to what extent was it an age of affluence' and to what extent was the civil rights movement successful

I don’t think it will be on economy for this timer period, it had been a part B before.

‘The years 1945 to 1964 were a time of strong economic growth and prosperity for all Americans.’ This was June 2018, not sure if you mean something like this though?

So what's most likely to come up for some last minute cramming

I'm thinking cold War will certainly be on it, if they look at the previous tensions in current society like Ukraine, they are likely to aim for an appropriate question that's good for educational reasons and understanding.

Yes 😆 I had forgotten about this question. In all honesty I think anything could come up, it's very hard to predict

I thought it was a really good paper. The Big Business question was an absolute godsend alongside the civil rights one also and the extracts were really solid

I agree, it wasn't horrendous by any means. Foreign Policy extracts, facts had to be subverted to fit but by no means was there anything too bad 🙂 Well done everyone!
