University clearing

Im not rlly sure how clearing works just thinking ahead. If you don’t meet your grades for your firm choice but meet the grades for your insurance can you still go through clearing to get a place at your firm choice uni, do you need to like decline ur insurance choice ?
Yes, you'd need to decline your insurance place to formally be in clearing. Some unis may speak to you whilst you are holding an offer elsewhere, but the vast majority will not make you a verbal offer until you are actually in clearing.

Edit: See below regarding trying to get back in to your Firm choice after being rejected..

You won't be able to get into the same course at your original firm via clearing, if that's what you have in mind.
Sorry, yes, I've just re-read the first post and it expressly mentions going back to your Firm. As above, that's not possible because your Firm would just have accepted you as a 'near miss' candidate rather than rejecting you and then making you go around the houses via clearing.
