Joining the air force to be a student nurse will be going to Bcu , do all of the student nurses in the military have to live together in an accommodation or do we have the option to live in a accommodation with civilians studying other subjects

It’s been a while since I lived in Birmingham, so my information may be outdated, but the military students used to have their own accommodation separate from civilian students.

Can you remember what accomidation it is , and is the accommodation militarised or is it just an ordinary accommodation, are the rules strict or is just normal student accommodation

I can’t sorry. They were expected to engage in military stuff around their studies (physical training etc), I don’t know if there were barracks style rules for the accommodation but I imagine there were to some extent. Ultimately, you’re a serving member of the military so are subject to military rules and discipline. There’s still opportunity to go out and get some of the student experience though.
You’ll have done your basic training prior to going to university, so should be used to the military culture

You should be given these dates and joining instructions for basic from the RAF.

Honestly, even if it’s military accomodation - it’ll likely be Z type meaning you get a good sized room with plenty of storage and an ensuite bathroom. Likely you will share a kitchen/common room with 4-6 people at most. The accomodation is of a decent quality - the only rule being don’t paint the room! As for discipline etc - you’ll be a serving member of the military so don’t break the law but... You may be expected to attend PT but if you have in your head that you’ll have strict rules such as curfews etc, then I can assure you that once you’re out of basic training and attending BCU, you will not have restrictive rules around your life such as curfews etc.
You’re probably best off asking these questions in the British Military Reddit forum or the RAF reddit forum. There will be military nurses on both that can answer your questions. Good luck at basic. It’s a hell of a lot easier doing uni and earning a full time wage on the side!

My daughter is currently doing her basic training and hopefully starting uni in September. She applied last October, so took about 6 months from her first application , basic training is 10 weeks.. accommodation is military.. as far as I’m aware you don’t get the option to share with civilians
