Career In Investment Banking Still possible?

Hi, I am 17 years old in 3 months and I have left school after my national 5 exams (GSCE). I am however regretting that decision as I didn’t realise until now I want the best Life possible. Investment banking has caught my eye due to the career and earnings potential and I am wondering if this pathway would cause it to still be possible to get a career in investment banking by starting off in college:

Accounting, Administration, and Business-1 Year- SCQF Level 4/5

Accounting-2years- SCQF Level 8

Accounting and Finance BA Degree at Robert Gordon’s University-4 years

Potential Internship in 3rd year of University-Hopefully IB Firm

Edinburgh Univerisity Msc Degree- 1-2 years

Then after I follow this pathway I would try get into IB if it is possible, Please be brutally honest if it is or not, and leave any suggestions to what changes to make to this pathway if needed.
Thanks.

It is a really good thing that you are considering setting up your career path for success. However life is not black and white and things often don’t end up as planned.

You might want to consider expanding your goals just a little bit by looking at careers in the finance industry generally. This way, you would come across so many opportunities and won’t be limited to just investment banking.

IB can be challenging to get into and if you are blindly fixated on it, you could lose motivation real quick. Instead you can make so much progress in similar roles in finance and maybe even progress to IB later on from other finance roles you use as a stepping stone.

The most important thing for success in uni is to apply and complete as many spring weeks and internships as possible. These experiences would be really key to achieving a graduate job to your dream career.

I hope this helps.
