Opinions on Durham

I have heard mixed reviews on Durham. Are the people there snobby? Are they mean? Do they have a good film programme? Are they accepting of international students?

Hiya,

I completely understand where you're coming from, I was anxious about coming to Durham because of its reputation but as a second year international student, I can say it is slightly exaggerated. Yes, you will run into some people you may not get along with but that is a natural part of life and something you'll encounter regardless of where you are. Durham has a very diverse mix of communities where you can meet people from different/similar backgrounds so don't worry about not making friends or meeting unfriendly people, the vast majority of people you interact with are very nice 🙂

As an international student, I was definitely nervous I would not find friends/have difficulty fitting in, but there are various societies where you can meet other international students and also students from your background! You can have a look at some of these societies/groups on here . I unfortunately don't know much about the film program at Durham but you can head over to UniBuddy and chat with students in that program to get a better understanding of what its like.

I hope this helps!
