Wrong maintenance loan amount given?

Hi I received my entitlement letter last week and it says I was awarded £3650. This was much lower than I expected (I am in my final year so I expected it to be lower but not this much lower) and is barely above the minimum amount given. For reference I was awarded £4259 last year so this is a massive difference in amount. There is also no difference in my household income, so I didn’t expect such a big decrease in amount for my final year.

Since the amount was so low I originally thought I accidentally applied for the non-mean tested loan, so I went to change my application and it says there that I have already applied for the maximum amount and I was already awarded £4453.

I spoke to an officer on the live chat on the SFE website about this as I originally thought I was awarded the non-means tested amount as I previously said. They basically told me that I should just refer to my entitlement letter as this is the correct amount and I got so little because I am in my final year (and that the final year mimum amount for living at home is £3482).

But I am still wondering why there’s a big difference in the amount being shown that I should be awarded on the application page vs my entitlement letter. Is is possible that the amount on my entitlement letter is wrong?

Hi there,

If you're living at the parental home for your final year the minimum amount would be £3482, if you've been awarded more than this then you are Means Tested. The entitlement letter would be correct.

Thanks, Ross
