Sheffield Hallam foundation courses

Hii, I’ve applied to do law with criminology at sheffield hallam, and i was wondering how the uni is with offering foundation courses if i don’t meet my grades? it’s the uni that i really want to go to, and wouldn’t want to go to any others as it’s fairly close to home, etc. Although i feel like i can get my grades, i’m nervous about not getting them, and wanted to find out if they they are likely to offer me a foundation year or not?
thank you!

You may not actually need to go down the foundation year route. For Law with Criminology (the regular 3-year course) they typically ask for BBB at A level. Is that the offer you received?

According to The Uni Guide, here, students on that course typically get CCC. That would tend to suggest that they accept a lot of "near miss" candidates in order to fill the course.

And yes, I realise that I haven't answered your question about a switch to the foundation year course if you aren't accepted to the 3-year course. I don't know the answer to that question, so I decided to answer a different one.

HI there,

It can be worrying waiting for your results and wondering if you have got into uni so I understand how you are feeling!

I would say to try not to worry too much, especially if you feel you will be able to get the grades you need to get into Hallam! A few of my friends got offered foundation courses as they didn't get the grades for their course, and a couple of people on my course slightly missed the grades for the course and they still got let onto it. However, this varies depending on how many people get the grades and how many people apply for the grades so I can't say for certain if you would get offered a foundation course as it depends form person to person and from course to course.

if you are really worried about it, you could get in contact with Hallam's enquiries team who will pass your question on to the relevant people. You can do this by emailing [email protected] and someone should get back go with some help.

You can also look on our ambassador platform where you can speak to current Hallam students and there may be someone on there who has had a similar experience to you. You can access this here: https://www.shu.ac.uk/study-here/student-chat

There is also clearing if you don't get the grades you were hoping for and this may enable you to get onto a different course at Hallam if this would work for you.

I hope some of this helps and good luck

Hello,

We do offer "Law with Criminology with Foundation Year". You can find out more about that course and the entry requirements here: LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology with Foundation Year Full-time 2024 | Sheffield Hallam University (shu.ac.uk)

If you don't meet the entry requirements for the UG course you may be offered the "with Foundation Year" option automatically. However as others have said, we encourage applications even if entry requirements aren't quite met, as each application is taken independently and your experience will be taken into account.

Hope that helps
