Late uni submission

Hi,

I had a uni assignment deadline for 14:00 on Monday. I submitted an incorrect file at 14:00 on Monday as was within the deadline, however I saw the error and submitted the correct one at 14:01. This meant that my submission was late and I incurred a late penalty which is 10% off my grade.

I know I shouldn’t have left the submission to the last minute. This has not happened before either. The error was because I had 2 files with the same name and I of course had to submit the one that I didn’t need.

Is there grounds for an appeal due to submitting a file within the deadline initially and because it was just a minute late? I also have anxiety and receive extra help from the university so I don’t know if I can mention this too.

What are your thoughts? I know this is a lesson of not leaving it to the last minute but this is literally the first time in my 3 years at uni.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I am so sorry about your situation I can't imagine the stress you felt when you realised it was the wrong copy. I'm a university student in my third year and only know of one person who spoke to IT when her submission did not come through until a couple minutes after the deadline. They discussed her situation and no marks were deducted because it was purely IT error. I'm sure that there is no harm appealing your mark and explaining your situation, because you would either get the 10% deduction removed, or it would remain the same. I would personally go for it and see what they say.

Hopefully you manage hand your assignments in earlier next time to give you peace of mind and sort out any issues if they arise

Good luck with everything and your future studies!

Thank for for your kind words. As it was all such a rush for me when I tried to submit it within the deadline, I looked a few days later and saw that the original file I uploaded was in fact the actual work I wanted to submit so I got the 10% penalty for no reason 😬. My module leader eventually got in contact as said I wouldn’t be penalised and she will consider the first submission so that’s alright then.

Thanks.

Hi!

That is such a relief! I completely understand that initial panic around whether you submitted the right thing so I'm really glad it all worked out in the end and the uni have helped you out! It's nice to hear a positive update.

Good luck with the rest of your assignments 🙂
