How did you find the exam?

I think it was much meaner than the past papers. I think I’ll get an A but maybe not full ums (which was my goal). Everyone in my school came out of it unsettled. There were some really nice questions and some where it was hard to figure out how to start. Idk if that means the boundaries will go any lower since everyone I’ve seen says they don’t think it went great.

What did you guys get for an and b in the binomial?

I had no idea for the binomial question or the last one, How were we meant to figure out the gradient of the tangents

The last question was awful 💀 I didn’t get an answer, I put a bunch of formulas down and tried some numbers but I just couldn’t get it. I mean if it was the ‘tangents’ on (0,0) and going through C wouldn’t that technically mean any angle because 0,0 is in the circle?! Unless we had to use the middle of the circle. But then we had to find out the coordinates for them?

Honestly no clue. For binomial I got like a= 0.5 and b=-224 or something. Don’t think it’s right.

Also what was the surds fraction cause I tried multiplying it out with its conjugate but it didn’t come out to what they said 😭

Half the paper was good, the rest however. The binomial question was something else and the circle tangents through the origin.

Agreed. The first two pages started so strong and then it was a mix of highs and lows for the rest of the paper 😂

Pretty sure the grade boundaries are more than likely to go down a bit with how hard it iwas, it is the WJEC though so you never know.

the 2023 paper was pretty hard (not as hard as this one) but the grade boundaries were 67/120 for an A so maybe around there

I seriously hope so. An A was 73ish in 2019, 57ish in 22 Covid year and 67ish last year where boundaries were up a bit.

So if it’s going back to precovid that’s about a 70 😢 but 2019 had a much more straightforward paper. So I think it’ll be 65ish.
Hi everyone, just going to move this to the A-Level maths forum where you can continue your conversation

Nah, the good half was still quite tricky, harder than the 2018 and 2019 papers

I don’t know how working out the gradients of the 2 tangents is even possible

Yeah I agree. It felt a lot less straightforward. I think it probably went better than we all thought though, but the boundaries may be lower.

WJEC doesn’t like maths this year. FM1 on Monday was an absolute nightmare of a paper.

if it's any consolation i had the same for a and b. second part of the log graph question and the circle question was disgusting.

i got the same for binomial i couldn’t do the last questions or the surd one either honestly think that was the worst maths paper out of all the past papers praying the grade boundaries are low😭 Also what were those log graphs

Yeah logs was horrid. Logs and circles are awful

I don't know what the WJEC were thinking. "do you know what we should do? make it obnoxiously hard"

I reckon I could get an A but then again aim was max ums which might not be very likely. I think the questions that I did attempt I got most of them or at least marks for workings. From what I’ve seen the ones catching ppl out were: last part of the logs, last part vectors, last question and the binomial one

I didn't even know how to start some of the questions, just got to hope the stuff I waffled about comes up with a few marks.

Same here. I thought vectors was ok but maybe I did it wrong 😬 But yeah logs and last one I’m expecting most people did badly in
