Exception courses

I would like to know if midwifery and speech & language therapy are exception courses for tuition fee funding purposes? (Full time undergraduate)

My husband recently completed a teaching degree with QTS but has been offered a place on BSc speech & language therapy . He had problems applying online for student finance and on the online chat he’s been told that allied health professions are no longer exception courses.

I also would like to know the same about Midwifery.

Thanks.

Thank you. The Student Finance advisor on live chat was insistent rules have changed in March and she quoted something about veterinary science and medicine being the only exception courses now?

Can I ask if there is also anything about not getting funding for an exception course after doing a teaching undergraduate degree with QTS?

Hi there,

Funding on a new AHP or NHS course will be exempt from previous study and ELQ rules. Therefore if you already hold a degree or have previous study you will still be eligible to access the full package of funding.

Thanks,
Claire

You'd still be exempt from previous study.

Odd. When he tries to submit an application for funding, it asks if he has QTS and then tells him he can't apply. Won't even let him get to the course details page.

Hi indecisiveornot,

It should only be if you are trying to apply for another teacher training course that you wouldn't be able to proceed if you already have QTS. If this issue persists, I would advise sending us a paper application form.

Thanks,
Calum
