Hiiii, often I just use medical tape or something similar and wrap areas of my finger in it if they rub on the paper a lot. It helps to relieve some of the pressure on it. I had to check with my exams officer it was okay as I got scared it could have been malpractice.
Maybe not a short term solution but try learn some new writing positions! I have a couple of different ways I hold my pens which tend to use slightly different parts of my hand or fingers, and I sometimes switch mid-exam. Helps me a lot, but I know this wouldn’t work for other people, especially who struggle with handwriting. Maybe it’ll help though?

I'm going to try and change the way I hold my pen over the summer - it won't help right now with GCSEs but hopefully it will help in the future

i hold my pen differently from literally everyone else i know because i used to grip my pen really tightly when i started to learn how to write, obviously this caused tension and cramps, so i was taught the 'alternative tripod' method (i think thats what it's called?). i don't know if it's any better than holding the pen the other way because i haven't really ever done that, but it's supposed to help with writing longer according to google

would also recommend building finger muscles- which sounds weird but hear me out- i play the piano and scales have built so much muscle and endurance in my hands. you can also do finger yoga by following some really easy yt videos. the more you stretch the more your hands relax, so i recommend doing it before and after exams

I agree. Playing an instrument, especially those which help build up muscle on your fingers on your dominant hand really helps. However, if your hand starts to cramp, just take some deep breaths and pause for a few seconds. Then keep writing. Personally, having played piano for 7 years, I was able to endure back to back Business Paper 1 and Latin Language. Shows you how important instruments really are.

Maybe a pen grip might be useful during an exam. It may not be allowed though so you should ask your exam officer to double check.

I have got a pen grip now and it’s helping a lot but thank you anyway xx
Yeah I usually try to stretch my hand out during exams as well between different questions specifically in essay subjects but idk how much it actually works...
