URGENT A in AS biology and chemistry in less than 4 weeks??

Hi guys, PLEASE HELP!!

I have procrastinated and wasted nearly of all of year 12. I do AQA biology, chemistry and psychology levels and my mock is very very soon. I NEED an A because I really really want to apply to medicine. I know l've wasted the whole year and that I'm very very stupid but I am willing to put in A LOT OF effort because I don't want to let myself and my parents down. l've procrastinated so much but want to make up for it. I’m passionate abt medicine and want to work really hard now so I can get those A’s I have just been lazy the whole year and my friends are also lazy so they aren’t the best influences BUT I want to put my head down now and actually get A’s in my mocks. I just need YOUR help. If you are getting A’s in any of these subjects PLEASE PLEASE reply to this with help.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated bc I am cooked !!

just bang out exam questions/past papers is my best advice, one past paper for each subject per day minimum. hopefully you will be able to get the hang of content as well as exam technique at the same time. that’s the best advice i can offer you to get an A at short notice.

also for content, watch one of those “All of AS Bio/Chem in 1 hour” type videos, as many times as you can. on the bus, at dinner etc etc passive intake of knowledge when you can.

What grade do u think ur at rn?
If u think u have a good grasp of the content then just smash out past paper questions and make flashcards on qs u get wrong and then just go over those flash cards everyday, adding more and more
If ur struggling with content then u need to get hold of a good set of notes that tell u just what u need to know, pm me and I can give u the ones I have (they're getting me As). Make flashcards out of these notes and review them everyday. When you've reviewed a certain chapter then do past papers from studymind. I say studymind bc they have a good range of new and old qs. U can do it, don't let anyone tell u otherwise. It's difficult but doable. Remove all distractions and get ur head down. Bio is one subject in which u can jump grades really fast as the qs have a very similar format once u master the markscheme so dw.

have a go at a past paper or two first, to identify your weakest areas and highlight these for review. Make sure to practice topic based questions e.g using PhysicsMathsTutor on your weakest topics. Make sure also, especially for biology, to write down the questions you got wrong into flashcards so you can drill in the exam technique.

You may also need to practice on some skills (e.g maths skills, analytical skills, extended response). Use past papers to identify these. MME Revise has some biology questions that help with skills revision and so does CGP (for both chem and bio).

Also use YouTube to help (I recommend Allery Chemistry for chemistry).

Hi @R.als,

I did Biology and Chemistry for A-Levels as well, so hopefully my tips could be useful to you.

Biology is a memory-heavy based subject, and there are certain revision techniques that I found especially useful to help with memorising: flashcards and blurting. For my flashcards, I would use them write down and memorise those biological mechanisms and processes. When I did past papers I would typically find long-essay style questions, these would usually have a mark of 5-8. I'd find the mark scheme and write the bullet points on the flashcard and memorise them, it's important you use the correct keywords and all. With blurting, I would read my notes and try to memorise as much as I can and recall the facts by writing or blurting them on a piece of paper.

For chemistry, it's important not to neglect your maths and practical skills. Ensure you are comfortable using the formulas listed in the spec points. Once you become familiar with the maths, they often become quite repetitive and easy to do- lots of practice questions will secure you those marks in the exam. In terms of practicals, it's important to pay attention to the details- how equipment is set up, which chemicals are used and at which order etc... You might also be expected to draw diagrams of the experiment.

For both subjects, I would constantly refer to my specification points during my revision. I would treat my spec points as a checklist and to ensure I'm covering everything I need to know. Topical past papers were also incredibly useful when I needed to work on a specific topic area.

Hope this helps,
Danish

Hi thank you for your advice. To this moment, I haven’t done any past papers and my biology and chemistry exam are in 4 days. Do you think I should do the past papers timed or just copy off the markscheme and memorise the answers. Please help!!

ngl im in a similar situation for my a levels and im doing past papers normally (i finish them fast) and i find it most helpful,, but if ur rly stuck for time id focus on past questions on topics ur bad at and either do them properly or to do it faster just think abt the answers and look at the markscheme. but for me copying the ms hasnt been useful personally
