yeah that sounds about right, it’s been surrounding auteur for the past couple years for that component. i was gonna have a look now and see what could come up for parts B and C

ok these are my predictions based off the questions since 2019:

hollywood: industrial impact on film or auteur impact on understanding the film

US film since 2005: visuals & spectatorship or ideological critical approach

british film: how studying narrative helps understand the film or sound & visuals

god i can only pray questions like these will come up ☹️ it's so hard to predict with film as they can word stuff so weirdly, on the day you just kind of have to improv

agreed, i think hollywood is the most predictable as it almost always relates to the specialist study areas (context & auteur) and the us film is the hardest to predict, but 2023’s questions weren’t too bad so hopefully we get lucky with ours. wishing you all the best!

screaming and crying what even would you put for industrial impact on film. there’s like 3 things to say and none of them link to the films really

for vertigo you’d talk about the hays code and in-house cinema and for blade runner you’d talk about the guilds and how they shot on the WB backlot because of the actors strike in the 80s (if you’re doing those two films ofc)

ok i cant post photos on here but just look up the rules of the hays code and link them to specific sequences (eg the opening scene tempts the haze code by letting the criminal get away, scottie and midge have an ambiguous relationship & there’s a bra and alcohol in the background, scottie isn’t very stoic in his masculinity). the main thing to mention is that hitchcock always tempted the hays code, despite the rules being so strict

there’s not so much for ridley scott but do mention the fact that he had more creative freedoms in his directing such as clothing, violence, and moral ambiguity of deckard. there are no heroes or villains in blade runner which makes us question our own morals
