GCSE Anthology Love and Relationships

Im studying for Mondays test right now for the English Literature paper 2, what poems do you recommend I focus on? I want to be able to only do 5 or 6 poems that I intensely study and then learn the others sparesly. I’m doing love and relationships.

idk but some people said in a different thread asking about predictions that the extract might be neutral tones/when we two parted bc theyve not come up yet. so maybe just focus on anything you think might be good to compare to those?

Here's what's come up so far for AQA L&R:

Specimen 1 - Follower
2017 - Mother any distance
2018 - Singh Song!
2019 - Winter Swans
2020 - No exam for L&R
2021 - The Farmer's Bride
2022 - Sonet 29 - I think of thee!
2023 - Before You Were Mine

There seems to be a recurring theme that poems do not repeat themselves, however, don't be too strict on this as they definitely could, for example, in the Power and Conflict cluster, I believe Ozymandias has been repeated, so a poem could repeat.

I will first explain my predictions and then recommend the poems you should definitely learn for Monday which I will put in bold along with others you should learn if you have the time. It must be emphasized that I am only predicting so don't think that this will definitely come up, there is just a higher chance of them coming up.

Prediction 1: Exploration of Heartbreak and Fragmented love.
AQA haven't yet explored this theme, it seems as though they have mainly stuck to romantic love and family love, so there is a high possibility that this will show up.
The poems that could come up on the exam are Neutral Tones or When We Two Parted.
Good poems to compare are of course each other, Winter Swans (love that starts broken and ends in harmony) or Walking Away.

Prediction 2: Exploration of Distant Love or Separation.
This is very similar to the first prediction. This explores how love is distant and seems far, now this might not just be physical distance but also emotional distance.
For example: Letters from Yorkshire, Eden Rock, Follower (distance from his father), Before you Were Mine, Porphyria's Lover, The Farmer's Bride, even When We Two Parted and Neutral Tones (distance between their lovers).

So the predictions are very similar and have a high chance of coming up.

Here are the poems I think you should learn, however the ones in BOLD are the ones you should definitely prioritze for Monday, try to have an understanding for them all.

1.

When We Two Parted

2.

Porphyria's Lover

3.

Sonnet 29 - 'I think of thee!'

4.

Neutral Tones

5.

Letters from Yorkshire

6.

The Farmer's Bride

7.

Eden Rock

8.

Follower

9.

Before You Were Mine

I have plenty of resources to aid you when learning these, please message me if you will require these.

If you want some quick and easy context which can be applied to all Love and Relationships poems except Neutral Tones, I would definitely suggest learning about Romanticism, here is a nice link to use:

Keep going, and best of luck for Monday!
How did you find the paper, I believe you got powerful feelings accompanied with 'Neutral Tones'
