Personal statement

I have a week to write a personal statement for universities but I can't decide what I want to study yet and am thinking about applying to very different courses. I'm only allowed 1 personal statement (because of ucas) and I have no idea what to do. Any advice?

It depends on your courses and unis you are wanting to apply to, but sometimes courses will allow you to submit a second separate personal statement to them (not on ucas) but you would probably have to contact them first? They do this a lot more if you’re doing something like medicine and have your fifth separate back up choice, or if you’re wanting to do a more niche course.
You could try doing a more general personal statement if not but this isn’t generally advisable as unis want to hear about passion and dedication for the courses you are applying to.
If you’re in year twelve, you still have a lot of time before fully setting your mind on a certain course. I would try doing some taster courses/listening to talks/work experience if you can?
If you have careers advisors/form tutors at school I would maybe try have a chat with them as well?
Hope this helps!

Next year

Then there’s no rush.
It’s usually that your college want to know that you are making progress.

If you aren’t decided on what to study yet then write a different PS for each subject. Often writing down why you like each subject will help you decide and even if not you can share the different PSs with your teachers so they know you are getting prepared.

Hi there!

I know it can be difficult to write a personal statement, especially when you want to apply for different courses! I have been through the same predicament so my advice would be to find links between the subjects, even if they are very different form each other, there can be a few things that tie them together.

I have seen from the thread you have a while until you are officially applying so I would say to not stress too much now and that in that time consider your options. If you are able to, attending open days can be incredibly helpful in deciding what course to go for. For me, going to an open day confirmed my decision on what particular subject I wanted to focus on. If you aren't able to go to an open day in person, then most universities have videos and in depth guides to their courses online which can be a very useful resource when deciding what to go for.

I hope this helped! 😀
