‘to what extent have the current conservative party changed since its creation?

for Edexcel a level politics I’m not entirely sure if that’s how the question would be phrase but I’ve been having a hard time trying to figure out how I’d answer something like that

This sounds like a history question rather than politics. How far back into the Conservative Party do you have to go?

sorry i just saw this - i thought from the time with Robert Peel, but I feel I may have been a bit misguided in this being a possible question tbh

hi i do aqa politics but if i got question similar to this i would do this ! its basically kinda like one nation conservatism vs new right

para one : economic socialism v economic conservatism

paternalistic policies used - ex gov aid during covid

counter it with liz truss’ tax cuts which made low income households worse off, thatcher reducing the size of the state

para two : social conservatism v social liberalism

thatcher introduced section 28 (socially conservative policy)

cameron apologised for section 28 and passed the 2013 marriage act (legalised gay marriage), theresa may said she would ban conversion therapy

para three:

one nation conservatism - boris johnson said ‘members of our new one-nation government’ during one of his victory speeches, david cameron wanted to shift back to one nation conservatism

eurosceptism - thatcher wanted to leave the eu and obvs the uk has

hope this helps u out a bit !!
