are my face results (9999999986) good enough to apply to oxford?

hi guys! i received a grade 9999999986 in my gcse’s and the one 6 i got was in art and my 8 was in maths. i’d like to apply to study either biochemistry, medicine or biology at oxford but im so scared my one 6 is too bad :frown: is it still worth applying?

I have similar results, 9999999886, would they be too low for Oxford/Cambridge??

Short answer: Yes, they should be.

As long as you passed English Language and Maths, and received good results in the subject(s) you intend on studying, your GCSEs (mostly) are negligent. Focus on your A-levels, extracurriculars and reading, as those factors in the end will really determine your chances of getting in.

Usually universities only consider your top 8 grades on your GCSE profile, so you will be fine.

However, you have listed 5 top universities here. I recommend that you apply to at least one safety university because I know people with 4 A* who didn’t get into their “safety” which was still a Russel Group. Good luck!

Typical TSR post 😝

Jokes aside, you'll be fine, those grades are good enough to apply and the 6 won't disadvantage you. Surely you don't think that someone who's done less GCSEs than you but got all 9s will be in a better position purely because they don't have a 6?

Hi, currently an offer holder for biochemistry at Magdalen, GCSEs don't matter as much as people think, what they are really interested in is your A-Level grades, your personal statement, and your supercurriculars. They want applicants who have niche interests and show a genuine passion for the subject rather than the university. I got two nines at GCSE, the rest were mostly eights and sevens. Hope this helps.

The should do, it definitely won't be the reason for a rejection if you don't get in.

It's okay, I honestly didn't think I'd get an offer so I was so surprised and I'm so excited.
