Advice about loughborough university placements and facilities

Hii I got an offer to study bsc bioengineering at loughborough university and I'm indecisive because I don't know about the job opportunities for engineering students there and what all facilities even tho it's mentioned on the site but I need a students opinion. Also how safe it is for an international undergrad

Any advice would be helpful

Hi!

I'm currently at Loughborough and about to graduate in July.
I would say that if you are worried about your job prospects, Loughborough is one of the best places to come.
Loughborough is extremely well known and liked by many companies in industry and the vast majority of our students manage to secure placements every year.
We host one of the biggest career fairs in the country and regularly have (engineering)companies reach out to us with the specific question if we can advertise their placement to Loughborough students as they know how much placement students are supported here and the type of student that they will get.

I would also add that I am an EU student and that I have found Loughborough to be extremely safe!
I'm a mixed-race, queer and neurodivergent woman, but I know that everywhere on campus, I am safe and can always call security if there is a problem and they will be with me in moments. I also live in town now, but the University still employs community wardens in town to make sure that students are still being looked after. For example, as a student in town you could still call campus security if you have a problem and they will come to you.
Loughborough is very much a student town (and the locals that do live here will, in the vast majority, all be employed by the University in one way or another), and so the whole infrastructure of the town is based around that fact.

Let me know if you have more questions though, happy to help!

Hi there,

Congratulations on your offer! 🙂

Loughborough University is a top ten UK university, and has been rated 5 stars for innovation and employability by the QS Stars University Rankings. We are one of just ten universities in the UK to receive the highest possible rating for both of these measures.

You may find this page about Engineering at Loughborough helpful as it gives an overview of our engineering awards, industry links, outstanding employability and our purpose built facilities.

Although I don't study engineering at Loughborough I can tell you the facilities are outstanding for engineering. Loughborough have a great reputation for engineering and are one of the largest engineering universities in the UK. A lot of my friends do engineering here and I have only ever heard good things- they love it! Placement opportunities are another thing I would look into. The page I mentioned before provides information on this and also your course page. If you scroll down on the course page there is plenty of information about placement/year abroad opportunities. Loughborough has close links with industrial partners which enables them to provide students considerable help in securing a placement year. Again, I don't do engineering but the help I received in securing a placement was so helpful.

I have been a student at Loughborough for 3 years and have always felt safe. In my first year I lived on campus and felt very safe as you have hall wardens and campus security physically on campus 24/7. Living in town I have also felt safe and know I can call campus security if I ever needed. Everyone on campus is really friendly and I have always felt welcome and comfortable here.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please do ask 🙂

Alex
