How hard is third year economics? Is it possible to get a first.

Didn't do well in second year but the grades are split so final year accounts for double.

How hard is it to balance it out and get a first/2:1 in final year? Anyone who was in the same boat in previous years?

I should hopefully be alright if I can get a first in 3rd year (70% or above) so is it a lot harder?

So 2nd year is worth one third of your overall grade, and 3rd year two thirds?
If you had 50% in 2nd year you'd need 80% in 3rd year to get an overall of 70%, if you had 60% you'd need 75% in third year. But of course this is really something that varies between universities. People don't automatically do worse in later years, I did better in each year of my degree (didn't do economics). And it also depends on why you would have had lower grades in 2nd year. If you had 50% but you did absolutely ****-all work, doing better in third year would be more plausible.

Yes 1/3 and 2/3. I'm not as concerned about getting a first overall as I would be happy with a strong 2:1, so I would still need over 70% in final year.

Pre-university I was pretty strong academically and in first year too I got a low 2:1. This year had some problems but my idea was that if I put my head down and work a lot harder in third year I can balance it back up. Spoke with some third years they said it's a lot harder and I don't stand a chance that's why I'm asking here for some advice too.

Can I ask you how much more did you do in third year and how much better did you do?
