Lab Experience during my Gap Year/Summer

So, I decided I wanted to take a gap year and change my course to Chemistry or Biochemistry (still deciding) instead of doing the course I originally applied to. I was wondering how do people gain work experience in labs or attend workshop programmes. Most things I have seen are tailored to year 12 students.

Hi @sillyskeleton

I'm currently in my third year studying biochemistry (I'm on placement atm working in biotech/drug discovery). If you're concerned about lacking lab experience for your personal statement, please do not worry. Universities recognise that lab based experience is extremely rare for people pre-university and not having it should not affect your chances. A good way to show interest in the subject is by reading outside of what you learnt at sixth form/college through books, magazines, and MOOCs.
