The Student Room Group

Compelling Reasons application

Hi everyone,

This is a bit of a sensitive topic for me as I do not speak about this with anyone except family. I have recently applied for an extra year of tuition fee as I used my gift one when I dropped out in 2021 due to mental health conditions and paired with covid which accelerated the decline in this. This was a clinically diagnosed problem. I have sent off my letter explaining the situation in as much detail as I could and described my reasons from having to withdraw from my studies. I have provided a formal letter from my GP which is signed by them and a list of dates from an official document as to when I was actively taking medication to help with this problem I had. I was wondering I have sent this to the address on the student finance website and wondered how long is it till I normally would get a reply to this. I am wanting to go back to study to pursue my dream after it was put on hold by the terrible illness, I have a great support network around me and hope I get granted this as it would be a struggle to go back without this.

Thankyou for taking the time to read my post.

Hi there,

Have you made your application also? Did you post the evidence or upload it online with a cover letter explaining why you're sending it? When did you send this to us?

Thanks,
Claire

Was I okay to post all of these together or do they need doing online as I do not want to delay this process.

Posting it is fine. It's currently taking 18 working days to process this type of evidence. Keep eye on your online account. If the team need anything else they may email you, it may go to junk folder.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi,

I have recently received my decision back to add more evidence on how it affected my studies which I have now done, I have explained my situation in more detail now and I am in the process of getting another formal letter from a GP for this, I have no option to upload this online. I will have to post this when I get this from the GP to explain how it affected my studies. Will I still be able to be considered for my first year funding if acceptable as this is what I am needing? This is a long process as it can take up to 20 working days for SFE to review evidence. This is for starting studies this year in September.

Hi Lewis,

If it's accepted we'd add it to your next Academic Year you've applied for, so if you applied for 24/25 and it's accepted you'd be eligible for the Tuition Fees.

Thanks, Ross

You can send the evidence next week that's not a problem. It's around 17 working days for processing just now but our timescales will be updated next week.

Thanks, Ross

What is the deadline to send evidence for tuition fee this year as in sending the compelling reasons to get accepted as the GP is taking a while to get this done and it is out of my control?

Thankyou, are there anymore contact details for Student finance as I am in the process of collecting the extra evidence they require from a GP.

Thankyou , I now have confirmation that the GP will be writing this formal letter for me as soon as I receive this I will send all of my evidence with my cover letter to student finance. This should be all the evidence they need as it is specifically what they have asked for.
