I am just finishing my first year of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Glasgow, and have absolutely loved it!
You can find out all about the different degree programmes offered in our James Watt School of Engineering, some of our incredible engineering related student societies and our research and facilities on our website: University of Glasgow - Schools - James Watt School of Engineering
Any questions about the first year course or life as an engineering student at Glasgow, please ask away!
Many thanks, Elise, 1st Year BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering

Hi there, I got an offer for Electronics and Software engineering from Uni of glasgow as well as Computer and Electronic systems from Strathclyde (same course different names). I'm having a hard time deciding between both and I would love some feedback on what you like and dislike at glasgow as well as which you would recommend (For context I'm a S5 student if the age difference makes any difference at each uni although I doubt it would)

Hi there,
Congratulations on both your offers! I have to say I have absolutely loved studying at Glasgow. The biggest downside is for me is just the workload, but unfortunately this is just the case across all engineering degrees! From what I've heard from friends, Strath engineering tends to have slightly more lab time, but we also have a good mix of assignment, lab work and exams at Glasgow. I also came to Glasgow straight from S5, and have found that I've managed to keep up with the course content just as well as my classmates. The university offer some really great academic support such as engineering maths drop-ins, which I found helpful in my first-year.
Another thing I really enjoy is the campus and living in the West End. It's a really popular area for students and there's always loads going on. The two student unions on campus make for some really fun and varied student nights, and the huge variety of sports clubs and student societies make it really easy to meet people with similar interests! Some of the engineering ones in particular are really cool, such as UG Racing, Handprints or UG Rocketry.
All round, although engineering can be extremely challenging at times, I've really loved my time here so far, and couldn't recommend Glasgow enough. I would say go with your gut of where you think is right for you, and keep in mind things like the location, social life, course content and facilities.
Hope this helps and best of luck with your decision! Elise, 2nd Year Student Rep Mechanical Engineering, BEng
