uni russel group choices help - architecture

im a year 12 looking to do architecture, and i was wondering if applying to 3 Russell unis (liverpool, ucl and cardiff) would be a bad decision, with ucl and cardiff being the ones that are my grades and liverpool being aspirational. I looked at the new data on ucas showing how many people before were accepted with the same grades as me and it all seemed positive, i’m still a little unsure though because maybe its too much russels as its 3/5 choices

The RG is completely meaningless for architecture (and aren’t necessarily the most difficult to get offers for aside from not being the best option for many applications).

What is it about those 3 universities that appeals to you?
Do you have any thoughts about the sort of course and environment that you would thrive in? Or specifically what you might want to work in within architecture longterm?

Edit: also grades are only part of the picture. UCL in particular has offer rates that are tiny based on portfolio and drawing tasks not grades (although given the problems with the toxic culture at Bartlett and the slow progress resolving those problems they’re probably best avoided tbh).

okay thankyou this was really helpful and Liverpool because of the study abroad in china and the XJTLU link as im currently learning chinese and want to possibly emigrate in the future and i think ill apply to xjtlu too, ucl because its pretty diverse and it’s situated in london and ive always wanted to go here and i liked the look of the course, finally cardiff because i liked the integrated Bsc and MArch degree and thought the course was the most interesting out of all the ones i’ve looked at, also its useful since most of my family live in cardiff. I think i’d thrive in an environment with a lot of help at first because i find it hard to find where to start firstly, but once i get the hang of it i can work independently just fine but i also dont mind group work as i want to improve my teamwork and social skills as this isn’t really a strong quality of me. Lastly as i said before im hoping to emigrate so i think it would be really helpful to do a course or part / a year abroad.

could look at Nottingham too. it has campuses in China and Malaysia and you can do exchange semesters during BArch and MArch

Just be aware that 'accepted with' grades are not the predicted grades that applicants applied with - they are the gades that they were accepted with in August. It doesnt mean that you would necessarily get an offer with those grades.

Hi there,

I am confident that it would be worth you applying, you can have 2 other choices if you want a "safer" option, but you wouldn't want to regret not applying either. Can I ask what draws you to these universities?

Please also let me know if you have any specific questions about Cardiff that I can help you with 🙂

All the best,

A lot of students are struggling with the cost of living crisis too, so that's something to consider when you pick. London will be expensive. I know UCLan were voted the most affordable, because i live right next to it and saw the massive banner the other day! I'm not really sure how Liverpool etc fair, but look at how much money you will need per month to live, and what you will actually get. You need to be able to eat too!

Hi!

Cardiff is commonly ranked as the cheapest city to live in in the UK. Accommodation is relatively affordable - you can see options here. Do you have any specific requirements?
