Do you think the premier league is the reason migrants want to come here?

I was watching documentaries about the migrant crisis, the documentary is 3 years old tbf.

the journalist interviewed the migrants and ask them why do they want to come here and they answered because there is no racism in England (yes he said that).

In the comment section everyone laughed and mock him for claiming that there is no racism but i suddenly wondered whether these migrants got that idea from watching the premier league?
Football is a global sport and i am pretty sure even in under developed african countries they watch the premier league over there.

And they see black players or players of african origin thrive and flourish in the premier league, gets paid big money to kick a ball and of course the FA's kick racism out of football campaign.

Thus they think they will have a better life here and all want to come here.

Sure Ligue 1 has black players too but outside of europe who watches ligue 1? ... no one.... hence no one wants to stay at france..

Sound hypothesis?
So to stop the migrants from coming we have to stop broadcasting the premier league...

I doubt it is the Premier League. I think it is more likely that they have family here and - relatively speaking - the UK is probably less racist than average. In particular, the UK tends to be less racist where immigrants actually choose to live than where they don't (e.g. if you go to somewhere like London, Manchester or Sheffield, you probably won't encounter much racism because people are used to living in a multicultural society. Go to a very elderly, very white village in Surrey or a smaller town that no one wants to migrate to in the north of England and the experience might be rather different).

Very interesting podcast on the BBC Sounds at the moment called To Catch a Scorpion. It is a hard hitting look at the people smuggling trade and how it works. They don't go into the primary reasons but they do ask why people come to England when they could stay in France or Belgium. The reasons they cite are that most are unaware that you can stop elsewhere and this is reinforced by the people smugglers who sell England as the land of dreams in order to take the money of those they are smuggling. Many migrants also have family in the UK which would naturally be a draw.

It is a desperately sad affair on all sides.

A fun one i noted is the shock some of them have when coming here and the place isn't like Midsummer murders (quaint little villages) and everybody being decidedly rich. Shockingly, our soft power in the form of broadcast media etc. does have quite an impact.

No, it's because of university places. People come here looking to get a British degree and stay on after they graduate.

The Prem is as much a form of British soft power as the NFL is a form of American soft power and nobody moves to the US because of the NFL.

bad comparison

NFL is almost exclusively an american thing, few watches it outside US

mexicans and south american countries are football crazy, not NFL crazy.

south americans still try to move to the US in droves, but not because of the NFL, because of other forms of soft power. for the UK, the premier league is our prime soft power, there really arent any other league that come close. Few actually watch ligue 1 or bundesliga. Only La Liga comes close.
