Nursing as a second degree

I have a BSc in Adult Nursing & a MSc in Psychology.

I want to return to Uni & complete a MSc in LD Nursing. I really wish I had done a dual award as LD is my passion.

My question is will I be entitled to funding from SF. I called them & the lady said yes as it’s an exempt course and providing it’s a different field I will be eligible.

I am unsure as I have already a MSc, however I have read you apply via undergraduate funding

Can anyone confirm or if you have been in the same boat let me know

Thanks

Hi Laura,

I can confirm if you already hold a degree in Nursing and want to enrol on a Learning Difficulties Nursing course you would be eligible for support again. You would be applying through undergraduate application.

Thanks, Ross

Hi Ross

Thank You

I applied at Edge Hill & their admission team advised if you have a BSc in Adult Nursing you can’t apply for LD Nursing.

I have asked them to look into it as I believe that is incorrect. I know a couple of people dual trained who have done an additional field after qualifying 🙂

You're very welcome Laura.

It is still exempt so we can offer the support.

Thanks, Ross

Hi @Laura Bella,

If you are looking to gain registration in a second field of nursing, I'd recommend you look to study our PGDip Nursing (Learning Disabilities) course. It enables qualified adult, children’s and mental health nurses, who have current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, to undertake an additional professional role in learning disability nursing. This is currently a one year full time programme.

I am sorry to hear you were advised you couldn't study a learning disabilities course. We would usually advise qualified nurses to study our PGDip nursing course, rather than our MSc. The full list of postgraduate nursing courses can be found here.

I hope this helps
