University graduate

I am finally a graduate after 5 years at university. I am thinking of doing my masters in clinical psychology or taking a conversion course and doing a pgce to become a teacher. Any advice or experience

Hi @Shewins101 ,

First off, congratulations on being a graduate!

I'm going to assuming the you completed an undergrad in Psychology. I think the choice is up to you and what you want your end goal to be. If you would like to teach I think that you should take on the PGCE. However, if you'd like to continue with it seems like the therapeutic route, of clinical, continue on to do your PG.

Best wish with your decision,

Don't underestimate how much time goes into a PGCE, it is extremely full on and ties you into teaching so just make sure teaching is the route you want to take. You could always do your master's and then look at school-funded teaching so you don't need to worry about financing the course, and you get your masters as well 🙂

Hi there,

Congratulations on finishing your degree!

I would say think about what kind of job you would like to do and therefore what qualifications you will need for said job. A PGCE will tie you to teaching and can be very full on and demanding but also the same can be said about doing a masters in clinical psychology as both can be demanding in different ways. Defiantly think about what so of line of work you would like to go into and therefore what kind of masters qualification you will need to proceed in the line of work you would like to do.

I hope this helps and don't feel like you have to rush to make a decision 😊
