Durham college allocation

Hi, I got an offer from Durham and I had to rank my college preferences and just received an email with the college I was assigned to. While I’m aware that people don’t necessarily get their first option I got allocated to my 12th option which is a ugly modern depressing building, the type of building I absolutely hate and from their Instagram I feel like I’ m not going to fit in at all with the vibe. I’m really disappointed cuz I was excited for the college experience and I now feel like I’ll hate it. Since this is just a preliminary allocation I’d like to know if there’s anything I can do to change my college allocation?

Pls let me know if you find out I got allocated to Stephenson but I really would prefer South or John Snow personally.

I'm assuming you're referring to South? If not, which college is it? If it's South, I can tell you that it's a really great college. To me, the building is really lovely especially with its modern blue-ish colour but I can understand that not everyone would like it. I personally have had a good experience with South, because the facilities like the gym, bar, and music rooms are super modern and you get mostly ensuite rooms which most students in catered colleges don't. Plus I don't think you can gauge what your experience there will be because one, you can't really judge a book by its cover and two, your college experience will be determined by the people you meet instead of what the buildings look like.

I'd say try to keep an open mind about it. I have friends in Van Mildert who love South more than their own college! South has great things to offer and I hope you can warm up to it slowly :smile:
