applying for accommodation - Durham

Hi,
just received my college allocation (st cuthberts society) and i’m really excited but wondering how/when we apply for accommodation? i’m a bit nervous about accom prices so anxiously waiting for more information via email. i’m hoping i haven’t missed any important emails as im feeling a bit clueless.

Congrats!!

Accom application usually comes out after results day. They do it within college so how long after results day varys, iirc mine was start of September.

Im also worried about accom prices. Do we have to pay for the 38 weeks ,, why am i paying even though im away during holidays?

i feel the same
I believe different colleges have different lengths of contracts. The ones that include holidays does mean you can leave all your stuff there and don't have to move out, but yeah I agree that it feels like a waste of money. I think if you have a serious issue about the price, you may get a chance to be reallocated as they can't really force you to pay for something you can't afford, right?

i'm unaware of what college you are at but some colleges have short contracts (no holidays) and long contracts (with the holidays) - for example 2 of the grey college buildings do not have holiday access. i would get in contact with the university if this is a big concern for you to see if they're able to help.

also just fyi, in year 2/3, contracts for housing become 52 week contracts (for the majority of houses).
