Settled status and maintenance loan

So I started my course on September 2022 I’ve been a migrant worker and have been working continuously for the past 2 years now I’ve gotten my settled status. And am going to start my 3rd and final year. If I apply for student finance as settled status do I still need to be employed to be eligible for maintenance loan or do I get the maintenance loan without being employed. I’ve been an independent student ever since I started my course I’ve been independent for the past 4 years. Thank you for answering

Hi there,

Please upload to your online account your Settled Status confirmation letter/email and your new share code. As you've got Settled Status you'd no longer be a Migrant Worker so we won't require employment evidence.

Thank you for your reply. So just to be clear now that I have settled status can I quit my job and focus on my last year of studies and still get maintenance loan or do I still need to be employed. And secondly now that I have to reapply for sfe for third year do I change the status on the application and upload the settled status letter with the share code then or before I reapply? Thank you

Hi Ernesto12,

If you now have settled status you do not need to be working to be eligible for a maintenance loan.

You just need to send us evidence of your settled status once you make your application.

Then upload the letter from the home office and the share code afterwards. To get my migrant worker status changed to home student. Or do I need to do a new Pn1 form to become a home student. Because I’m currently a migrant worker but I’ve gotten my settled status on the 26th of November 2023 for the 2024/25 year I wanted to get maintenance loan without being a migrant worker .

Hi there,

We don't need a PN1 form as you would've applied on that originally to get your Migrant Worker status.

You can apply online as a returning student with your course details, once you submit the application you can then upload your Settled Status confirmation letter along with your new share code.
