I'm an LLB student now who has just received their results for their first year, second semester. I am going to commence to second year soon, so any advice on how I can improve these grades would be most appreciated.

Hey, Well done on finishing first year of uni and hope your looking forward to second year. First year is a step up from previous learning (college, school etc) so with that comes different expectations and marking systems. An important thing to take away from first year is knowing what note taking and studying techniques are the most productive and work the best for you. Clearly you more than passed all your modules which is great and hopefully has shown you that you are managing well with the workload and adjusting into uni. I would advise having a look at any feedback that you got back and reflecting on both the feedback and your full year experience to set you up well for the next year. Remember to take time for yourself and have a good summer. Being rested and ready for the next semester will give you hopefully a strong and smooth start back. Hi there
Congratulations on finishing your first year. 🙂 Those are solid grades and a great starting point to build on. 🙂 In terms of improving your grades, I would really recommend making a list of all the feedback you have (which you can continue to add to during next year and third year). This has really helped me pull up my grades- after completing each coursework, I would contrast my writing to previous feedback given. Taking on feedback is a great way to improve- and if you ever find feedback difficult to understand, you could always ask your seminar leaders to discuss these with you in more detail.
I believe another way to improve your writing skills would be to look at and understand the marking scheme for the higher marks- for example: there is a certain way they prefer the writing structure, referencing, and depth of analysis- understanding these could really help to pull up your grades further.
In my opinion, second year is often a step up from first year in terms of work load- so make sure to write out all your assignment dates in advance and plan how you will manage your time efficiently. Leaving enough time for double checking and proof-reading (and time to make changes) will be really important to performing well in assignments.
I hope this helps. Good luck! 🙂 Chloe University of Kent Student Rep
