Sharpie S-Gel pen

I know that in the exam, you cannot write in gel pen and only in black ink, but i am confused. I bought some pens called the sharpie s-gel because of all the good reviews. i didn’t think they were gel pens and i thought that was just the model name. these are the only pens i have now to use for the exam and i’ve already done one exam paper with them. It writes and sets on the paper immediately and the ink is black just like a normal ballpoint pen. Because it’s technically a “gel pen”, will the scanners be able to see the ink?

if you've only done 1 paper i wouldnt worry too much because if whoevers marking it sees a blank paper theyre likely to request the hard copy to mark, just use a normal pen for the rest

I used the same pen as you during my 2 out of 3 economics exam and I'm worried about my paper since its an essay based exam and S-Gel pen is really nice to write with. I talked to my Economics teacher about it and they told me unless it gets smudged easily then it would be a problem so we tried to write something with the pen and tried to smudge it and there was no smudge so I think it's alright. I'm using the "Pilot 0.7 Liquid ink" pen now the same I used during my GCSEs and I think you might like this

I'm not sure what part of Sharpie S-Gel didn't give it away.

You will not be punished for using a gel pen, They scan perfectly well most of the time, if you can see it the scanner can see it. Examiners will mark everything they can read on the scan or if necessary on the original paper version.. Gel pen inks have improved enormously in recent years and many people will use good quality, water proof, fade resistant gel pens with no adverse results. Some gel pen inks can cause problems and have done so in the past which is why candidates are told not to use them. Ink can smudge before drying or soak through the exam paper obscuring the other side, some inks don't bind well to paper and are affected by accidental exposure to water, moisture, heat or strong light or they can flake off when passing through high speed document handlers used for scanning. You could lose marks if any part of your paper accidentally becomes unreadable.
