Uni of Bristol vs Lougborough Uni

Hi, I'm a 19 student who is currently in a gap year, I have got offers to study Economics and Management Bsc at both Lougborough and Uni of Bristol.
I'm currently debating which one I go to, both courses look very similar and I believe teaching will be pretty similar.
My debate questions are:
- Will it feel lonely in Bristol since it is a city and spread out therefore you don't feel a togetherness with other students in the Uni, compared with potentially the close-nit lougborough campus?
- Is bristol student life more lively and fun than loughbrough since loughborough town is terrible
- What's peoples experiences of Bristol and loughborough?
- Because sport is very high level at loughbroough will an average player not be able to be in a main sports societiy and therefore potentially miss out on a soceity feel?
- does anyone know if you can get specific subject mentors at bristol since they are dropping the tutor system but I have diagnosed Adhd.

I like sports, I'm a social person but I'm not crazy on raves and clubbing etc.

These are very vague questions but I'm really struggling with deciding and wouldn't mind some outside opinions!

Also, I like going out and doing things like going to the pub, going on walks and just doing alot, so I just dunno, also Bristol is slightly better rated than loughborough for econ not that this matters though.

Hi there,

Great to hear you are considering Loughborough and congratulations on your offers! 🙂

I have been at Loughborough for 3 years so I can try to give you some insight and answer your questions from my personal experience.

Loughborough is very much a student town and as you are on a campus it has such a strong community feel- I really love this as you tend to see a lot of people around that you know. People are really friendly and I have met some great friends, and I found meeting people very easy to do so as you are surrounded by so many people on campus. I have met people through a variety of ways including through sport, my halls and my course (I find you also meet a lot of people through others like friends of friends so your circle just keeps expanding!)

Loughborough student life: During the week most social events happen on campus through the Student Union. For example, at the union there tend to be 2 nights out in the week (Wednesday and Friday) and events during the day which differ week to week. Take a look at our student union website for more insight here. At the weekends more seems to happen off campus. In town (which is walking distance from campus). There are multiple pubs, bars, cafe's, restaurants and nightclubs which are full of students at the weekend. You can always rely on the town to be buzzing with students over the weekend! I like that it is not too overwhelming as it is a town. However, you have the option for a bigger city scene- If we ever fancy a bigger city night out we tend to go to either Nottingham or Leicester on the train as they are both approximately 20 minutes away. The train station isn't far from campus and there is a campus shuttle which goes to the station.
The nice thing I find with Loughborough is it has so many surrounding green spaces. There are such nice walking routes- Beacon hill is very close and I have done many walks with my friends.

Sport is obviously very big at Loughborough and there are so many opportunities to get involved. We have AU where you play BUCS and play against other universities. We have IMS where you can paly against other halls on campus at a decent competitive level. We also have My Lifestyle which is a free and inclusive recreational sport opportunity for all students. There is so much to get involved in at Loughborough and not just sport, we have over 100 different societies also. There is definitely something for everyone.

I hope this helps give you some insight into Loughborough. If you have any questions please do ask 🙂

Alex
