I’m not too keen on my insurance choice anymore- can I go through clearing?

I’ve firmed the Uni of Leeds for English and History, but i’m unlikely to meet the entry requirements. My insurance is Southampton but i’ve gone off it recently. I’d like to go to Sheffield instead, but am I still able to go through clearing for this if I get into my insurance? and if so what is the process like?

If Leeds opt not to confirm you place (as you don't get the grades) but Southampton do, then to formally apply to somewhere else (e.g. Sheffield) via Clearing, you'd need to relinquish your place at Southampton. To do this, you'd click the "Decline my place" button in UCAS Hub.

Obviously there's a risk that Sheffield can't take you, so then you'd have nothing. You can attempt to mitigate this risk by calling Sheffield before declining your Southampton place. This would be a general enquiry rather a formal Clearing application, but they might be able to give you some reassurance that an offer via Clearing would (or would not) be likely.

Hiya,

Clearing can be quite nerve-wrecking but the best thing to do is call up the universities before declining any places. The lines will be open from around 9am and you can be connected to the correct department to check if there are any spaces.

You can find out more information for Sheffield clearing here - https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/clearing

Good luck for your exams and let me know if you have any more questions,

If you are certain that you dont want to go to Southampton under any circumstances, then decline it now.
This means that if Leeds do reject you, you would go straight into Clearing on Results Day - however, remember that there is no guarantee that the course you want at Sheffield will be in Clearing.
