Undiagnosed asthma

I've been on multiple inhalers for a while now but my doctor hasn't explicitly said what's wrong with me. He said "we don't label it as asthma we focus on treating the symptoms" but I don't know if he means that I have asthma or what. It's a bit awkward to tell new people because I'm like "yeah... we think I have asthma but we din't know..." and I don't really know what to do. Any advice on what to say to people/my doctor? Thanks
Ask your GP for clearer information.

Speaking from personal experience, bear in mind there are different types of asthma, and allergies can trigger similar symptoms of wheezing, coughing and breathlessness.

Yeah, exactly, and the opposite is also possible. I had seasonal asthma a few years ago and now again. I didn't realized it is asthma because I was an athlete all my life and was checked for breathing disorders 2-3 times a year and never had any issue. I did have seasonal allergies but never asthma. So when I was having troubles breathing and just coughing all the time I was more concerned it was pneumonia or something but the tests showed it was seasonal asthma, I took the test twice to make sure it is correct.
With proper treatment it is very manageable and not something to be overly worried about.

Anyway, a proper medical exam should be a good step to find out what is wrong.
