Social life and work/study balance on an apprenticeship

To current apprentices, would be really useful to know about 2 common negatives with degree apprenticeships: the social life and balance of work/study.

1) How have you found the social life during your apprenticeship? Would you say it is difficult to make friends because you're not full time at university?

2) How have you found the work/study balance? Do you find yourself having to study for hours in the evenings and weekends? Do you have a schedule which works best for you?

Would be really useful to hear from the experts in this community. Looking forward to reading your experiences (feel free to drop your company as well for more context, don't have to if you don't want to though  )

I joined the local student union when I was a degree apprentice. Joined all sorts of societies and made that many friends it felt like it was always someone’s birthday weekend.

Only part of the student life I felt I missed out on was shared bathrooms, crippling debt, and consuming vast amounts of instant noodles.

It is what you make it.

As for studying, the most brutal it got was having to do 12 hour days, 7 days a week of study/work for 3 month straight. The uni grouped multiple assignment deadlines near exam time.
