Do teachers have to work 60 hours per week ?

Hi everyone.

I am interested in becoming a primary school teacher.

At a meeting today in a primary school with an assistant head teacher to discuss aspects of teaching young children, one of the questions I asked was how many hours a week do teachers have to work ? When she said 60 hours per week, I was quite shocked to be honest.

Does anyone know if this is the case ? If true, then its no wonder teachers are leaving the profession.

Also at the meeting she said some children are unable to use the toilet (so to speak) due to bad parenting. Do teachers have to take on this responsibility if required ?
I can't imagine having to use rubber gloves and a face mask to perform this task. Any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated .
Not specific to primary, but there was general discussion of teachers working hours here:
