Seeking Career Guidance for Postgraduate Studies in Healthcare

Dear Student Forum Members,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am a recent Bioscience graduate from London South Bank University. As my current course is not accredited by the HCPC, I am now considering pursuing a master's degree at a prestigious university in London to enhance my career prospects.

I am particularly interested in fields such as Dental Technology and Radiography, but I am also open to exploring other healthcare-related disciplines that would enable me to enter the workforce directly upon graduation. I am eager to learn new things and keen to find a path that aligns with my passion for healthcare.

Could you please provide me with advice on the possible master's programs that would be suitable for someone with my background? Additionally, I would appreciate insights into which courses have strong job placement rates and are well-regarded in the healthcare industry.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. I look forward to your valuable suggestions.

Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply - I've moved your thread to a more suitable forum.

You need to look for pre-registration masters courses in subjects that appeal to you. The best tool to find accredited courses is the NHS course finder:

https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/career-planning/course-finder

Have a look at the following page that describes the Allied Health Professions, such as diagnostic radiography, therapeutic radiography, dieticians, etc.:

https://www.england.nhs.uk/ahp/role/

In terms of employment, all the AHP professions offer good job prospects but do note that the 'prestige' of your uni won't matter at all to your future employers. Attend open days at a few unis and listen to the subject talks for a range of courses to work out what suits you the most.

If you are eligible for student finance, then you may also be eligible for the additional financial support available from the NHS Learning Support Fund depending on the course you decide to study:

Normaw is completely right, healthcare employers only tend to care about your registration, not where you studied. There are a huge number of conversion masters programmes so you really need to narrow down your focus in relation to what you enjoy and want from a job. Do you want more clinical experience looking after patients? Do you prefer something more science orientated with limited or no personal care? Do you want to be doing diagnostics, care, or rehabilitation?

I know few biomedical graduates doing a MSc in Diagnostic Radiography (their degree was useful in assisting with the large amount of anatomy to be studied), but you still need to think a bit about what exactly you want. Salary won't matter as most healthcare graduates start on NHS Band 5 payscale, so your preferences already matter instead.
