French writing

Does anyone have any useful or good phrases to impress the examiner and boost a grade for french writing? Mine is tomorrow, anything would be appreciated xxx

using the subjunctive e.g. autant que ce soit possible - as much as possible
Après avoir fini/mangé - after having finished/eaten e.g. aften having finished my exams, i hope to travel the world
ce que j'aime le plus, c'est - what I like the most is...
Ça nuit à la santé - it damages the health (e.g. smoking, phone use)
On m'a dit que - people have said that
il est important de ne pas - it is important to not
en faisant - by doing e.g. i stay in shape by doing excercise at least twice a week: je garde la forme en faisant de l'exercise au moins deux fois par semaine
J’ai toujours aimé - I have always liked

including opinions will boost your grade a lot, so include varied ways to express this rather than just 'j'aime'

good luck :smile:

i am doing edexcel higher and also came on here looking for some phrases. i already have a few: (sorry for any missing accents)

ma mere ma dit que... mais je ne suis pas d'accord= my mum said that... but i dont agree in the middle you would add a phrase, usually an opinion

j'ai toujours voulu= i have always wanted

j'ai passé un bon moment= i had a great time

si j'avais la possibilité, je voudrais= if i had the opportunity, i would like...

d'habitude= normally/usually

je trouve ca= i find it

souvent=often

surtout= especially/above all

cela me rend...+emotion= it makes me feel

il faut que je fasse= its essential that i do/ i need to do

"Il faut garder la tête froide" = it is necessary to keep calm/ keep a cool head

"Ça coûte les yeux de la tête" = it is really expensive (basically the English equivalent of it costs and arm and a leg) (direct translation is it costs the eyes out of your head)

"Quel dommage" = what a shame

"Il pleut des cordes" = it's raining heavily (basically the English equivalent of it's raining cats and dogs) (direct translation is it's raining ropes)

High level vocab: Même si = even if (eg: même si j'aime faire du sport je le trouve vraiment fatiguant)

Quand j'étais plus jeune = when I was younger (eg quand j'étais plus jeune mon école était assez petit mais maintenant c'est vraiment grand)

Malgré/ malgré ça = despite / despite that (eg Jaime ma ville malgré il y a beaucoup de pollution or Malgré ça nous sommes ouverts)

Au lieu de = instead of (eg je prend le bus au lieu de la voiture car c'est plus bon pour l'environnement) Si = if (eg si j'étais riche je voyagerais le monde) Qui = who (eg ma sœur avec qui je me dispute souvent)

all these phrases can be changed to a different tense or used with a different pronoun

for structuring my questions, i check with VASSA:
V- VERBS (conjugations, tense)
A-ADJECTIVE (agreement, placement in sentence)
S-SENTENCE STRUCTURE (does it make sense?)
S-SPELLING/ ACCENTS
A- ANSWER(have you actually answered the question?)

make sure you have used a variety of tenses, and lots of time phrase words or connectives. also try not to repeat the same verb to much. i also recommend leaving a line between each line so you have room to edit.

good luck!!
