Hello everyone,
Welcome to the sixth thread from emmanuella's Study Discussions, led by @emm4nuella! In these threads, we will be talking and discussing all things to do with self care and revision! We are talking all things mental health so that is why for today's thread, I'm asking you to tell us how you fit in self-care whilst revising during exam season! Self-care doesn't have to be what you see on social media - it can but as long as it makes you truly happy whilst doing that activity!
Please explain in as much or as little detail as you want !
Anyone and everyone can get involved, even if you're not revising for GCSEs or A Levels! Looking forward to reading your answers !

Hello Grow your Graders - please read the above post and contribute if you can! Thanks, Emmanuella

Spoiler

during exams, I make more of an effort to go to bed at a decent time because normally I go to bed wayyyy too late! when I come home after exams, I like to relax by having a cup of tea and just generally unwinding a bit before getting back into revision for the next exam

I try to set aside time for myself to chill out by reading something easy and always get to bed early during the whole season to make sure I relax. Also if I'm struggling to revise I'll take a long break or switch to a topic I find very easy
Thankfully I have only one exam left tomorrow and then I’m taking Saturday out for a full self care tidy room junk food kinda day 😂

But what I’ve found helpful is going to a dance class 1-2 times per week. I’m not really a sporty people and honestly the gym can be kinda daunting lol but this has actually got me up early on days and given me endorphins, and just a change of routine which I think has helped. Also the odd episode of gossip girl here and there haha. But I try and be reasonable with relaxation. Like today I had two exams and I’m ill so I’m exhausted, so I let myself have a tv binge for two hours before starting revision for tomorrow because my mind needs a break.

Also just had a mcflurry so that helps too haah

I like to do yoga and meditate, read a book, listen to some music or go for a walk 🙂
Okay rn I just watch a revision video before I go to sleep. Gotta absorb that knowledge subconsciously 😪, I also try sleeping earlier

i always Try and make sure to give myself little breaks in between revision! fifteen minutes away from my desk, doing something i enjoy. i schedule my revision massively, which means i give myself a day off. making sure my days aren't just revision is super important.

Well if your next exams are June after half term I'd definitely say have at least a day or two of no revision, just chill time. The weather is fairly nice, so maybe try and go for a 30 mins walk every day to get some fresh air. Try and arrange to meet uo with friends once or twice in half term so you all can have a break. When you start revising again do it in small chunks. Like I'll do 2 hours of X this morning, then from 12-2 I'm watching a film with my family. Then I'll do 1 hour of Y, have some food, then 1 hour of Z, have a shower, then 30 mins of reviewing/planning the next day before bed. Make sure there's a balance.

Some relaxing activities:
Walk, gym, shopping, facetime, video games, watch a film, play/talk with siblings, read, draw, listen to music, journalling, yoga, board games, cooking etc.

For revision, if you haven't finished thenotes I'd suggest looking at some online and printing them out. Try and do some active recall and then past papers. Focus more on learning than preparing.

I've usually either done some form of sport at least once per day, and I obviously enjoy procrastinating on instagram- but I try to have set times when I do nothing, e.g immediately after lunch, when I can just watch some youtube and chill.

i usually go for a walk in the afternoons and spend like 20 or so minutes at random points in the day just texting friends, watching yt, reading a book, doing duolingo (for me its a nicer way to revise japanese) :'') usually immediately after meals im a bit tired so i just go on my phone and look at stuff to relax for like a few minutes. didn't used to but some days i've napped up to an hour when im rlly exhausted, it helps.

please untag me
I gave myself 2 days off to do no revision, which I think really helped. I really just reread my favourite book whenever I start to feel stressed.
I'm a 1st year uni student, not doing exams but am working on my final assignments

I fit in self-care during exam season by taking short breaks to do activities I enjoy, like reading or going for a walk. It's crucial for maintaining a healthy balance and staying refreshed.
