Dental Nursing Apprenticeship Tips

Hi guys,
I'm looking to get a dental nursing apprenticeship (got an interview at a practice) but there's not much info online about the day to day life of a dental nurse and such. Would be great if you could share your experiences and tips for the interview 🙏🏾🙏🏾

Hey. I work in dentistry and a keenness for dentistry, being people focussed and being caring definitely go a long way when choosing an apprentice. Dentistry is a people business, we care for patients and so need to make sure nurses are kind and friendly. Main role is supporting dentists and colleagues while training in infection control, decontamination of instruments to keep the practice and all therein safe and compliant. It’s hard work but can be quite rewarding 😊

Good luck.
Day to day is getting room ready for patients booked in, ensure right equipment laid out for examinations or extractions etc chair side assistance to dentist and patient. Keeping room clean, cleaning instruments (decontamination) escorting patients into and out of the surgery. Helping reception where needed.
Honestly for an apprentice interview, I always look for someone who really wants to do it as you find lots of apprentices are there due to parental persuasion- if you are interested and keen you’ll be great 👍🏻

To be honest, this is kinda the last thing I would have applied for - I was looking to go into the legal sector but its competitive and I'm having no success. Despite this being the last thing I would have applied fir, I am interested in learning more about dentistry- I always say that if I was smarter I would've liked to work in the medical sector so I dunno....sorry a lot of waffle, but I guess I'm asking how I would say that in a more attractive manner to an employer because I doubt anyone wants to hire someone who is applying as a last resort 😅😅

Aha. I wouldn’t say any of that. I would just say you’ve always been interested in dental nursing. Because the apprenticeship is paid for by the practice and there is a lot to get through they would want someone invested completely
